Our Story:
Underground Amman was born from the vibrant hip hop scene in Jordan. As members of this community of local artists, we have struggled to create meaningful art for lack of funding, recognition, and acceptance of our vocation from the dominant traditional society. Our hip hop cohort in Jordan was significantly weakened ten years ago, as a large percentage of artists were forced to seek employment opportunities abroad in order to sustain themselves and their art. We’re working to bring it back. Our intention as Underground Amman is to promote, develop and elevate this unique alternative culture, art, and dance. Yes, hip hop started in the streets as a way to reject traditional forms of expression and provide public access to art, but we acknowledge that hip hop culture and expression deserve a seat at the table.
Vision:

Developing and supporting Jordan’s street art and hip hop community as an artistic catalyst for social change
